Greetings from LIC Community Boathouse,

This current mid-summer heat wave is perfect paddling weather. Just a reminder that this weekend we’re offering two opportunities to paddle to Governors Island. Saturday July 20th is City of Water Day and we’ll do the same trip again on Sunday July 21st. Both trips are on the calendar at LICboathouse.org and available for request on our Request-a-Trip page.

LIC Community Boathouse volunteers have been very busy with our regular public walk up paddles at Hallets Cove and we’ve done one event at Stuyvesant Cove in Manhattan and our first at Anable Basin right next to the boathouse.

Don’t forget to put your photos in our brand new Flickr LICCB Group Pool!

Your participation is what makes it all happen and volunteering regularly is the best way to ensure seats on our popular trips–like the upcoming Governors Island trips, the July 27th volunteers paddle to the Bronx and sunset and night paddles we’re planning for August and September (plus some fun amateur pickup Kayak polo games after work).

Volunteering is fun and easy with our New Volunteer button on the website.  We can now let you know in advance about upcoming trips and special fun events that may not be on the Calendar yet.

Good news!

We have received a grant for $500.00 for our participation at the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance’s harbor and water environment celebration:  City of Water Day.

Funds were generously provided by the New York-New Jersey Harbor Estuary Program , the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission, and the  The Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance.

Come out to Governor’s Island for some City of Water Day fun!

After this City of Water Day weekend we are hoping to make Walk up Paddling at Anable Basin for the LIC Flea & Food and some evenings a regular thing. The more volunteers that sign up, the more programs we can offer. The LIC Flea & Food has been attracting huge numbers of people right to our front door. Let’s build momentum! Join us often so we can put more boats onto the water, every day and night possible!
