Hi All!

Below is the good word from our friends at the Eastern Queens Alliance about a new Jamaica Bay boat launch. The NYC Parks and Recreation Commissioner for Queens, Dorothy Lewandowski, honored us by specifically requesting that we attend and bring boats for shoreline paddles in the eastern part of the bay.

The new kayak launch serves a great corner of marsh grasses, which are endangered, with osprey and other beautiful wildlife. There’s a strong Caribbean residential community nearby, and it’s been a struggle to gain full access to the water because of the proximity to parkland of the JFK airport’s security zone.

Let’s get out there to help them get started and to celebrate! Please email erik@licboathouse.org ASAP if you can help. We’ll also have an afternoon paddle exploration of Jamaica Bay after our public service is done.

Let’s figure we’ll meet at the Anable Cove boathouse (end of 44th Drive in Hunters Point) at 9AM, leave by 930AM and shuttle down with the trailer in time for the ceremony. We’ll be back at the boathouse by dinner or so.
