Hallets Cove Paddling August 9th & a Bonus!
Sunday, August 9th.
This week, we plan to paddle boats from the boathouse (46-01 5th Street) to Hallets Cove (31st Avenue at Vernon Blvd.) Volunteers are welcome to meet at the boathouse at 11:00 AM to paddle the short trip up at 11:30.
We’re meeting up a bit early this Sunday. Those who want a longer trip can paddle with us past Hallets Cove to Astoria Park to share in the excitement of the Astoria Water Walk event. Please bring along tennis balls, flying disk, or a football for the kayak to shore volley!
The water off Astoria Park should be calm while we’re there as tide turns from flood to ebb. We’ll then paddle a short ride back to Hallets Cove before 2 PM for the afternoon walk up paddle program.
Participants and volunteers are invited to spend the afternoon at the cove. After 5:00, we’ll paddle boats back to the boathouse.
The current weather forecast predicts a brief rain at 1PM Sunday. It may be windy, but no lightening is predicted. We’ll keep an eye on the weather because it does change. Any possible cancellation this week will likely be made without advance notice, at the last hour as conditions warrant.
Wednesday, August 12th, please join us at LIC Bar (46th Ave and Vernon Blvd) for Queens Green Drinks 6:30 to 9PM. Our friends and neighbors at Recycle-a-Bicycle are hosting this months event. LIC Bar is just up the block from Recycle-a-Bicycle and LIC Community Boathouse. R.A.B is hosting a bike sale same day starting at 4 PM at 46th Ave and 5th Street. Come early to visit and maybe go home with a new (refurbished) bike!
