Join us for the 1st un-wintering of the Boathouse this Tuesday, April 29th, 2014, from 8:30am until 1:30pm.  You can come and stay the whole day, or take a shorter shift if that’s what you have available.

The Friends Seminary in Manhattan is doing their National Day of Service.  This has kids setting out all over the city to help organizations like ours get spiffy for spring and summer.  We have a nice group of 8th grade students coming over to Long Island City for the 4th year in a row to help us shake the cold off, wipe the dust out, and get our gear in shape for a great season on the water.

We’ll have at least 40 kids, with some teachers and parents, giving their efforts.  Prior years have been fun and satisfying for all involved. These kids, parents and teachers are delightful to work with!  The events have been successful especially due to participation by LICCB volunteers who organized, coached and supervised small groups of kids working on specific tasks.

We need more LICCB volunteers this Tuesday to supervise groups of kids working on the tasks listed below!   If you’re willing and available, please reply to Steve and Ted.  Use address licboathouse.se(at)gmail(dot)com.
The  Friends group will arrive at the Boathouse about 9AM and work until 1PM or so.   We’d like LICCB volunteers to arrive at the Boathouse by 8:30 to help set up the various work centers.

Whether or not you can make it Tuesday between 8:30am and 1pm, we would welcome help later in the afternoon as well, organizing things at the boathouse that time restraints may affect — please join us!

Here are the tasks planned for Tuesday:

1.  Assemble the new floating dock

2.  Sweep the bulkhead and surrounding public area, pick up trash
