Greetings from the LIC Boathouse,

Our past weekend was our season kickoff for 2014 with folks getting their feet wet at Hallets Cove, including students from Riis Academy!

Get the summer started this Saturday with our Paddle to Brooklyn Bridge Park and then on Sunday, a trip to Governors Island.  We’ll wrap up with a Monday trip to Red Hook, plus more upcoming fun on our calendar!  Don’t forget to register for the trips on our Request a Trip link!

Save June 19th for our Spring Fundraiser, more details coming soon…

Check out our brand new Environmental Stewardship page and find new ways to have fun and do important work.  Here is a sampling:

Oyster Gardening at Anable Basin with LIC Community Boathouse:

The Oyster Garden we maintain at Anable Basin is part of the Harbor-wide Billion Oyster Project (BOP), the regional initiative to restore oysters to the NY/NJ Harbor Estuary.  To learn more about the project, check out:  https://www.billionoysterproject.org/about/   We need volunteers to to be involved in the project.

CWQT:   Citizens Water Quality Testing – We need a few more volunteers.

Several members of the LIC CB are involved with the CWQT (Citizen Water Quality Testing) program run by the Water Trails Association. Currently, LICCB members help sample water from Hallett’s Cove, Anable Basin and Newtown Creek.

If you are interested in participating in this project thru LIC CB, contact John Bradley (johnbrad322@gmail.com); or check out the CWQT links below:-
