Gantry Plaza State Park opens the gate to Long Island City Community Boathouse for the first time to provide free kayaking.

We launch at the southern most pier (Pier 4) Tuesday, July 8th from 5:30pm to 8:30pm and again on Saturday, July 12 from 11am to 3pm as part of City of Water Day alongside our peer community groups Green Shores NYC, Hunters Point Parks Conservancy, Long Island City Community …Gardens, and Friends of Queens Library at Hunters Point. Gantry Plaza State Park is the only site for City of Water Day activities in Queens. We are proud to partner with our colleagues to showcase the many waterfront activities in Western Queens!

All are welcome!

The Long Island City Community Boathouse (LICCB) is an all volunteer group founded in 2004 providing free kayaking to the community at Hallets Cove in Astoria, at Stuyvesant Cove on the East Side of Manhattan and elsewhere. Adults, children and dogs have joined us on short and long paddles over our ten years of providing access to the water!

This new launch site will help us expand our programming for the growing western Queens community of residents, visitors and their pets. In 2013 over 4500 kayakers paddled with the LICCB!

See the recent NY1 coverage and come paddle with us this summer. Doggie paddle only permitted in the kayak with a life vest.
