Greetings Friends of LIC Community Boathouse!
There's an opportunity TODAY (June 29th) to pull an oar in a beautiful large row boat at Anable Basin (5th Street end, north of 46th Ave) at 6PM running until dark. Village Community Boathouse (VCB) will offer beginner ROWING in one of their big four oar gigs. This is not an LICCB program, participants must sign a VCB waiver to participate. Minors must have an adult present. You'll row with experienced volunteers from VCB and learn the basics.
VCB will also offer rowing opportunities at Hallets Cove this Sunday and next July 10th.

Sometimes (actually pretty often!) we are reminded yet again why we do this and why we love it so much. Thank you Tania Chan for taking a moment to let us know how much you enjoyed your experience with Long Island City Community Boathouse.
Here's what Tania sent us after enjoying a great time on the East River with LICCB:
*I thought after living in New York City for over 30 years, I had seen and
done everything out there that the city has to offer but kayaking on the
East River last Friday was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever
had, period!

Kayakers are needed for a seven-day marathon swimming event in the Hudson River between July 8 and 14th (see
www.8bridges.org). The event is a 120 mile, 7-day, 7-stage swim. Each day swimmers, supported by boats and kayaks, swim with the tidal current between two of the eight bridges between Catskill and Staten Island. Swim distances range between 13 and 20 miles per day.
We need about seven kayak volunteers to support swimmers for each stage. We prefer kayakers that are also qualified lifeguards, but this is not essential. We will provide most kayakers with a sit-on-top kayak and pay

Greetings to all Friends of Long Island City Boathouse,
~~~
After a long cold snowy off season, we're getting back to paddling again. Many volunteers have already been quite busy--paddling the Bronx River, running walk up paddles at Baisley Pond and MacNeil Parks in eastern Queens--and participating in LIC at two workshops to sharpen their own skills and orient newcomers to our programs.
~~~
The Boathouse got a thorough spring cleaning thanks to a great bunch of volunteers from The Friends Seminary. You can see photos of some of these activities on our website and FaceBook page.
